Olsen twin Mary-Kate is anorexic
Mary-Kate, the brunette half of the Olsen twins, is anorexic, and she entered a treatment facility. I discovered this from looking through my referral logs, of all places. It seems that everyone else already knows about it, except me. It was reported by Reuters and you can read about it here at CNN.com.
How did it show up in my referral logs? Well I was just writing about the Olsen twins turning 18 in one post, and in another post I wrote about whether Britney Spears is fat, and I commented that I preferred her body to the anorexic body of Calista Flockhart. Google got these posts mixed up!
There is a photo of Mary-Kate Olsen accompanying the CNN.com article. And she does look anorexic.
I blame fashion magazines for endorsing a standard of beauty that encourages young women to feel that they are fat when they are actually too skinny. It would be better for society if these fashion magazines instead showed photos of women with more normal weights.
UPDATE
It's not anorexia, it's cocaine addiction.

i can tell half of you are about 13, just by grammar and some of the things you say. it wasn't selfish of mk to do cocaine, it was just stupid. she doesn't have to depend her life on her fans, just so they could keep looking up to her, that's their own choice to look up to her. she's not their big sister. and apparently being 'skinny' isn't the look anymore. haven't you noticed thick girls all over the media? whoever said an eating disorder is just like lukemia, cancer, etc. is only feeling sorry for the anorexic. they could help it, they just refuse to face reality that they have problems. if they could face it, they could be able to tell themselves it's wrong & unhealthy, and they could help themselves. i don't look down on mk, she's a teenager just like the rest of us and many teenagers go through drug use or trying to lose weight. she's not anymore special than us when it comes to that kind of pressure. and the media isn't helping by throwing her in the spotlight. i'm just happy for her that she's in rehab before it got worse. i look down on drug addicts that never try to stop themselves. we don't even know if the rumor's true, it could all be a lie. but hey, it's tempting to comment about it when i disagree with a lot of what you guys have been saying.

It was a shock when I heard about MK Olsen and cocaine in the same sentence more or less her having a possible addiction to it. This is my theory about movie stars, celebs and drugs. Drugs are prevalent everywhere, especially in Hollywood. In the 70's cocaine was king in Hollywood. I am a middle class adult male and have had my share of using various substances throghout the years. If I can find all the cocaine (or whatever)I want in middle America think about the availabilty in Hollywood with people who have millions of dollars at their disposal. I bet there are celebrities, like Mary Kate, who you would never suspect of having some kind of dependence or addiction. They just know how to hide or cover up their secrets better than others. It has a lot to do with image and publicity. She had a clean, goody goody image that makes it harder to believe. Even George Bush used to snort cocaine. I don't how much or for how long and he became President. One last fact. I read that during the filming of Steven Spielbergs "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (1977)every package being shipped to there location in Wyoming from Hollywood was being opened and searched because cocaine was being sent to them while they were filming. My point, even family director Steven Speilberg allegedly was a user of cocaine. I doubt he uses now but like I said, Cocaine was king in Hollywood back in the 70's and probably still is today but the stigma surrounding drugs and abuse just drove the user to be more discreet.

I think that mary-kate may be anorexic as i have seen her in recent pictures , but i doubt that she is taking cocaine
How would you feel if you were being watched 24/7 ? and anything that happens to you is written in magazines or newspapers? it would put a lot of stress on you to act perfect and also to be self concious about your body image do you know what an anorexic person sees when they look in a mirror they see someone that isnt really real thay see whatever they think they are and in an anorexic persons head they look fat i dont know about you but i will always support mary-kate unless i see mary-kate taking cocaine (which is never going to happen)not just writing in some stupid magazines .

I feel that It may be true that Mary Kate is anorexic and she is probably under alot of stress from being followed around all the time every day 24/7 and even if she was to be a cocaine attict its her life everyone looks up to her and her sister she doesnt tell them too and they dont have to..i feel she should be allowed to do whatever she wants its her life she doesnt need to be anyones roll model if people really liked her they wouldnt care how she was its deep down whats nice about her.. and i dont think that anyone should make a big deal about it..you wouldnt like it if it was happening to you so dont worry about what she is doing!!

I'm sorry but shana is soo wrong. anorexic people DO NOT choose to do what they do. it IS a problem that they can solve, but sometimes getting help is a lot harder than you'd think. im a recoverving anorexic and i'm healthy now but i think you should just shut up. you have no idea what you're talking about. its obvious you've never been anorexic and you're horrible to be mean to someone with such a problem. (we know she is anorexic because she recently checked herself into a clinique for it. so obviously she wants to change.)
p.s. she SO does NOT do cocaine. omg you guys listen to waaaaaaaay too many rumours.

I feel sorry for Mary Kate she is obvioulsy doing this for a reason. She is being followed everywhere she goes and has been splashed over covers of magazines saying she has been sent to rehab for a drug addiction. If parents font think shes a good role model for their kids then so what, let her be who she likes. I think the magazines shold stop the rumours and let the Olsen family be!

Hey guys. I just wanna say I totally agree with suga n’ spice and jess. I love u guys!
I also suffer with anorexia so all you ppl thinking that its easy and fun– find a hobby!
Anorexia is not something you chose to have – its an illness and I don’t think you realise how serious it is.
Never in a million years would any one ever think they could ever suffer with ana – it just happens and before we know it – were stuck in this illness with no way out.
anorexia kills and I wish people could properly realise what a struggle it is – it isn't just about food - it's about your feelings and coping strategy, a way of numbing out pain and unhappiness in your life.
I wish I could put these twats in my shoes for just a day and they’d soon realise how hard it is to just do something as simple as eat.
whatever anyone says, and despite what some of you morons think, mary-kate IS doing really well.
It’s taken a long time for her to get into this state, so it will take a lot of work and determination to break out. we all need some encouragement and so you idiots saying all this crap does NOT help.
Mk -You're quite the inspiration. get this sorted hun- your better than this and deserve so much more - Keep working to take care of yourself, and i wish you a happy recovery xXxXx

Seems more like your the one here who is about 13 from your LACK of knowledge. Anorexia isn't a lifestyle that you choose. It chooses you. It's not a trend. IT'S A DISEASE! People with Anorexia Nervousa can't help it. Then aren't denying reality. They KNOW they have a problem. They know it's unhealthy but Anorexia TAKES OVER YOUR LIFE. Once it gets into your mind it's INCREDIBLY hard to control. If ANYONE wants to argue this topic with me, feel free to instant message me at sarsiskool (aim)It takes a HUGE amount of strength even to admit to Anorexia and it takes even more to get into rehab.

Hi
I think MK is so brave to even admit to it, and even more brave to go into rehab. Ashley has given her her support %100, and I'm proud of them both.
I know what MK is going through as a fellow anorexia sufferer, whilst I was in special care at an eating disorder hospital, I saw one girl die because of anorexia, and realised how serious it was, I'm nearly up to my target weight. I very nearly died as I was a sufferer of extreme anorexia, in sixth grade I weighed 17kg, I don't know what that is in lb's.
I was less than %1 body fat but at the last minute came to my senses. Two more days and I would be dead, that scares the hell outta me.
I am now only a few pounds underweight and I'm proud of myself for that.
It's not something you choose to have, it's a monster, that attacks by saying your fat, when your not.
I've got suga'n'spice and jess' back on this one.
I also think magazines such as vogue should show normal women, I saw one lady who was so skinny! nobody is that skinny, nobody with a pulse anyway....
they should be showing women with normal figures, for us to look up to, not skinny (probably airbrushed) models.
Hope you agree.

Anorexia is a choice becuase it is based on someone thinking they have to be perfect and acting that thought out in an unhealthy manner. It is not something that just comes over someone. Hollywood says that in order to be attractive you have to be perfectly thin. It is very sad that girls buy into that lie. In the long run striving for perfection will only destroy you because you never can reach that perfection therefore one will never be satisfied. Then it becomes a neverending cycle which can ultimatly lead to death. Why not just be content with who you are instead of comparing yourself to others. Besides when we die I don't think it will matter how thin we were exc. Life is to short to be consumed with those vain things.
